Come clean on NEET, Jammu youth ask BJP | Ending discrimination | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 4: The Kashmir-based parties, including the ruling PDP, the main opposition NC and the Congress, have joined hands against the decision of the Supreme Court to hold National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) across the nation for selecting candidates desirous of seeking admission to medical and dental colleges. They want the apex court to keep J&K out of the ambit of the order and their plea is that J&K enjoys special status under Article 370 and Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution. They say that if the state is brought under the ambit of the NEET, Kashmiri students would suffer. It's a spurious argument. Actually, they want to hurt the Jammu youth. Not only the so-called mainstream Kashmiri parties, the separatists of all hues, Kashmiri civil society groups and Kashmiri commentators have also opposed the Supreme Court order and expressed identical views. They have said that the Supreme Court decision, if enforced, would erode the state's special status. They, like the mainstream Kashmiri parties, dismiss the apex court's decision an attack on the state's special status. It is intriguing that not a single political leader in Jammu belonging to any political party, including the BJP, which is part of the PDP-led coalition government, spoken a word in favour of the apex court's judgment to reassure the Jammu youth that they are with them and they oppose the Kashmiri opposition to the apex court's order. The unity in Kashmir among all and the indifferent attitude of the Jammu leadership has disappointed the brilliant Jammu youth. The Jammu youth want the BJP to make its stand clear on the issue and their grouse against the BJP is that it has not upheld their cause despite the fact that it was the people of Jammu who gave it status and brought it into power in the state for the first time. "We have no complaint against the Congress, the NC and the PDP. They are behaving on expected lines, as they have nothing to do with the Jammu's sentiment, Jammu's aspirations and Jammu's needs. They were and are Kashmir-centric and they shall ever remain so. Our complaint is against the BJP, as the people of the Jammu province voted for it en-block both in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. It is very unfortunate that the BJP has turned out to more anti-Jammu," said Rajesh, an aspirant. Richa Sharma, another aspirant, said, "We have no faith in the J&K's Competent Authority, as it is an anti-Jammu apparatus. We never got our due share in the professional colleges located in Jammu and Kashmir. We will do well in the NEET test and prove that we are more brilliant," she said. There were many like Rajesh and Richa who bemoaned the BJP's indifferent attitude. The BJP will do well to appreciate the concerns of the Jammu youth and they can do it by telling the state government that they are with the students and not with the biased and Kashmir-centric government. |
