Out of power, Omar turns separatist | Wants autonomy, special status, Pakistan! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 4: The National Conference Working President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after losing power has been talking in the language of separatists and is opposing all the moves aimed at bringing JK close to the rest of the country. Omar's latest assertion that National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is against JK's special status has drawn flak as many people believe that Omar and his party remember autonomy and special status when they are out of power. "NEET is against the interests of our students and clearly goes against the spirit and essence of J&K's special status, the former Chief Minister had said on Tuesday. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Omar Abdullah and his party are finding it hard to believe that they would have to stay out of power for next five years and there is every possibility about NC getting split as its leaders and workers are unhappy with the party. Omar and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah have been talking about autonomy, Pakistan, special status and other issues to strike a chord with people as they know it very well that they have been rejected by the masses outrightly." "When Omar Abdullah was the Chief Minister he used to remain busy in his own world. He had no time for even addressing the issues of the people. His attachment with twitter and his joy rides in a state helicopter were the talk of the town," the analyst added. He said, "NEET would make JK students eligible to get the admission in the colleges across the country. Opposing it and invoking special status of JK is just a political stunt aimed at deriving mileage." A Kashmir watcher said, "History stands testimony to the fact that NC has always exploited people on the name of Article 370 and special status. The Article 370 has proved to be a big impediment in development of Jammu and Kashmir. It has helped politicians and not the common people." He said, "Due to Article 370 many centrally sponsored schemes which could have helped people in Jammu and Kashmir couldn't be implemented here. All the Indian states have prospered during the past 65 years. JK is the only state, which due to politicians like Omar and his father, has lagged behind." He said, "It's high time that power hungry politicians like Omar Abdullah stop poking their nose into the matters which don't fall in their domain and allow Jammu and Kashmir to prosper and progress like other states of India." |
