Srinagar, Ladakh highway opens despite rain, Gurez remains cut-off | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 4: Despite rain the national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was through for both way passenger traffic while heavy vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu today. Meanwhile, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway and historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region were also through for traffic with some restrictions. However, the Gurez road, linking dozens of far flung and remote villages with district headquarter Bandipora, remained closed since Decemer last year. A traffic police official told that Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through for traffic though there was some rain. However, restrictions on the movement of vehicles will continue till further orders, keeping in view the condition of the road. Today passenger vehicles will ply from both Srinagar and Jammu while heavy vehicles, including truck will be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu side only. No truck will be allowed from opposite direction, he said. He said movement of all types of Jammu bound passenger vehicles shall be permitted from Qazigund from 0500 hrs to 1500 hrs, whereas movement of load carriers shall be permitted strictly from 0600 hrs AM to 1200 hrs. However, in order to facilitate the movement of passenger vehicles bound for Srinagar, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Banihal shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) from 0400 hrs to 1200 hrs only. Strict implementation of the cut off time as above shall be ensured. He said on Mughal road, which was reopened only recently after remaining closed for five winter months due to accumulation of snow, the movement of traffic shall be allowed from 0800 hours upto 1200 hours from Buflaiz towards Shopian and from 1300 hours upto 1600 hours from Shopian towards Buflaiz. The Srinagar Kargil-Leh national highway was also through for traffic. Cut off time for all types of vehicles plying from Kargil towards Sonamarg was 0630 hours at Drass and 0900 hours at Minimarg whereas cut off time for all types of vehicles plying from Srinagar towards Kargil was 1100 hours at Sonamarg. He said Bandipore-Gurez road is closed for all sort of traffic. |
