SMVD University holds meet | | | Early Times Report Katra, May 6: The Department of Philosophy and Culture (DOPC) at SMVD University Katra organized its first Alumni Meet in the campus. Dr. Vandhana Sharma, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences wished all the participants very best in their future endeavours. Dr. Varun K. Tripathi, Head, DOPC chaired the meet. Ruby Bharti (Research Scholar) presented a paper on "Irreducibility of Shabda-Pramana into Anumana with special reference to the Nyaya Philosophy", which was followed by a panel discussion in the seminar room of DOPC. Former students expressed their happiness on the resumption of M.A. Philosophy programme by the Academic Council from the session 2016-17. Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof Sanjeev Jain has been instrumental in the revival of this unique programme in the state of J&K. Also, there was a discussion on the content of the courses, which received many suggestions regarding restructuring of compulsory and elective courses. Students also expressed the need of Philosophy curriculum in every walk of life and confabbed issues pertaining to employability, viability, etc. Alumni also expressed their concern over the callousness of the govt. authorities in promotion of philosophy as subject in the colleges and higher secondary schools. The meet was attended by faculties, students and alumni of different batches including the premier batch of M.A. and PhD programme. The Head of the Dept. Dr. V.K. Tripathi expressing his views calling upon the teachers, students and alumni to make their presence in the intellectual world by reflecting and writing on emergent social and educational issues and also briefed about his initiative towards formation of Jammu & Kashmir Philosophy Association (JKPA) which will shortly take its shape. |
