Performance of Govt schools dismal: Education Deptt | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, May 6: The education department has admitted its dismal performance and failure to ensure any change vis-à-vis quality education to the kids in the government run schools. In its recent directive, the education department has declared that the government run schools have failed to produce any positive results so far. The order has besides revealed the inner secret of the department and also brought to fore the tall claims of the helmsmen who have been maintaining the rhetoric of major transformation and crediting themselves for the same. The Education department while taking strong note of the poor performance of the government schools in the class 10th results during 2015-16 , issued show cause notices to the heads of schools and subject experts asking them to explain their position. According to the directive, the education department has noted that despite repeated reminders the schools have failed to improve their performance and some of the schools have shown zero pass percentage repeatedly while that of others was between 5-7 percent. The school heads who have been issued the show cause notice are from different districts including that of Srinagar. The government directive noted that schools have registered dismal performance in 2014-15 and 2015-16 and this has brought the department to disrepute and proved a setback to the efforts to get the education system back on track. One of the senior officials of the education department told Early Times that there is chaos being witnessed in the entire system of education at present. "The government instead of favouring teachers with choice postings should have made a proper mechanism to make their work more and more result oriented. The transfers in the department of education are purely being done on political and also on the bureaucratic directions. There is unfortunately no proper accountable system in place- something that is desperately needed at the present time," said the official. Meanwhile, the order issued by the education department has nullified all its previous claims. "The order is a clear revelation that though the plethora of money has been spent in the government-run-schools, the positive results seem to be a distant dream. Not only have these schools failed to come out with good performance in class 10 results but their functioning also merits a highest concern," says a senior education department official.
