BDO goes out of way to appease RDD employee with political connections 5/7/2016 12:15:02 AM Akshay Azad ET Report Jammu, May 6: The Block Development Office (BDO) Gujru Nagrota of Billwar has reportedly misappropriated funds for benefiting an employee of Rural Development Department (RDD), virtually throwing into dustbin the resolution of Panchyat, proposing construction of a protection wall for entire village. Having strong political influence, the RDD employee managed to get a protection wall constructed for his land and funds to the tune of Rs. 1.3 Lakhs were misappropriated by BDO Gujru Nagrota. As per RTI application filed by State General Secretary of Pradesh Youth Congress, Pankaj Basotra, the BDO’s office replied, "Only one work has been executed in the village Pangran during financial year 2015-16 namely, 'Construction of projection work of agriculture land Uchapind in Paongran ward number 1. Estimated cost of project is 2 Lakhs and funds utilized under MGNREGA and 40 bags of cement were also issued for work". The RTI applicant said that the Panchayat had adopted a resolution for the construction of protection wall for entire village. The RDD employee initially claimed that he was personally constructing the protection wall and even paid the labourers Rs 300 as wages, but under MGNREGA, daily wage is Rs. 164", he said, adding that in violation of MGNREGA norms, tractors and other machinery was also used and later it was found that funds under MGNREGA were released. A local alleged that the RDD employee has been working as Coordinator of MGNREGA and he has diverted funds for his personal benefits. "The BDO office has gone out of way to oblige the RDD employee who enjoys strong political connections", he said.
