Priest 'sells' temple land, allege people | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, May 6: People of Barwal here have alleged that the priest of Shani Dev Mandir situated by the national highway at Bagiyal Morh has 'unauthorisedly' been selling the temple land. The villagers had donated 120 kanals of land nearly 150 years ago for the construction of Shani Dev Mandir at Bagiyal Morh. Crops grown there were used for community kitchen, but the priest had now started selling it, locals alleged. Ram Krishan, a local, said a piece of land was also sold out by then temple priest but it was taken by the people with government help. Krishan Singh said a deputation of the villagers had also called on DC, Kathua, and brought the matter to his notice. While he asked the authorities concerned to present the report within two days, it had not been presented even after the expiry of 50 days. Prof Flail Singh alleged that the present priest had sold a part of the land illegally in connivance with revenue officials. The protesters sought the intervention of revenue minister so that demarcation of land was done. Tarsem Singh, Karam Singh, Surinder Singh, Jaswant Singh, Romesh Singh and Pritam Singh also demanded an inquiry into the alleged sale business of temple land.
