Slow land acquisition hampers construction of Doda, Kathua medical colleges: Bhagat | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report JAMMU, May 6: Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Baghat today said that withholding of funds from the centre for two medical colleges of Doda and Kathua doesn't mean that Union Government has invalidated these two medical colleges adding that the center has withheld the construction of these two medical colleges, due to slow land acquisition process. While talking to media persons on the side line of 76th foundation day of Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Hospital Jammu, Health Minister Bali Baghat in response to the question that whether the Government of India has cancelled the proposal of construction of two medical colleges at Doda and Kathua while according release of Rs. 567 crores for three such colleges to be constructed at Baramullah, Anantnag and Rajouri said that due to delayed land acquisition process the centre for the time being did not release the funds for these two medical colleges added that necessary directions has been issued to the Deputy Commissioners of Doda and Kathua for expediting the land identification and land acquisition process and said that both medical colleges will be constructed along side with three other medical colleges. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Thursday gave nod to the opening of three Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Jammu and Kashmir while putting on hold the opening of two others due to various factors while at the same time centre approved Rs 567 crores for opening of these three Colleges at the cost Rs 189 crore per College. All the five medical colleges along with two cancer hospital for Kupwara and Kishtwar districts were approved by previous UPA II government and after delay of two years, the NDA government finally accorded sanction for the constructions of these medical colleges with an aim to give boost to health facilities in the state of Jammu and Kashmir as well as to cater the growing demand of doctors as once these five medical colleges started functioning, over 750 students will get admission to these medical colleges every year. Health Minister also praise the role of medical faculty and the staff of SMGS Hospital Jammu for rendering best ever possible services to the people in the hospital. Paying tributes to Late Maharaja Gulab Singh and his family, Bali Baghat said that Maharaja and the royal family's contribution will always be remembered for years together added that construction of SMGS Hospital in 1940 is the great vision of Maharaja Family who dedicated this hospital for the services of the public welfare. He said that the government as well hospital management will make all their efforts in future as well for providing better medical facilities to the patients visiting the hospital. |
