Mehbooba's master stroke likely to send opposition into tizzy | CM directs Finance ministry to re-engage 6000 NYCs | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report srinagar, May 6: What could make the opposition national conference and Congress to eat humble pie is the decision taken by the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to re-engage the aggrieved National Youth Corps (NYCs) in various government departments of the state. Highly placed sources in the government told Early Times that the chief minister herself has taken up the matter of NYCs with the finance minister Haseeb Drabu, asking him to formulate a comprehensive policy for the re-engagement of NYC in various departments. NYC, en-masse earlier went on the indefinite hunger strike after the government last year discontinued their services. Appointed in various departments after the year 2010, NYC appointees were shown the door following the financial constraints by the government. Sending opportunity to train guns against the coalition, leadership of both NC and Congress started visiting the protest venues of the NYCs. However, the reports later came to fore that it was the Congress- NC Coalition that deceived these youth with the cabinet order that was deceptive as well as the conditional. The order issued during the last cabinet meeting held by Omar Abdulah led regime accorded conditional approval to the appointment of these NYCs in the government services. The order stated that the approval would be accorded subject to the clearance from the finance and the planning department. However, merely a month after assuming office, the chief minister has started striving for the re-engagement of these aggrieved youth. Sources said that a special grant for the NYCs has been kept in the forthcoming budget session during which a formal announcement shall be made. These candidates became hopeful of a concrete government move after they were asked to enrol themselves with the adhaar based system in the government offices. Such a move by the dispensation has sent a euphoric wave across the NYCs. Furthermore, sources said that the finance minister has asked the concerned department to evolve an overall mechanism under which these youth could get adjusted in the near future. "Probably, they would be asked to rejoin their services after the budget session- till then they will have to wait but they have been assured of a positive break though," an official in the finance ministry said while pleading anonymity. Meanwhile, when contacted the president of NYCs Ahtisham Bhat said that he is hopeful that the new regime would take a positive measure towards their appointment and that the in near future some steps would be taken that would make the aggrieved youth here to heave a sigh of relief. "We are more than 6000 NYC waiting for the appointment. It is not we alone who have been witnessing immense hardships but our families as well who are waiting for justice. We are thankful to the chief minister for enrolling us in Adhaar based system and we really are optimistic that she will do justice will us in days to come," Ahtisham said. |
