As encroachments eat into road space, people threaten anti-MC protest | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, May 6: As shopkeepers on either side of the road from the bus stand to main markets here have captured the road space, making it difficult for pedestrians to walk through the crowded markets, locals have threatened to hold a protest against the municipal committee in case it fails to take action against the 'encroachers'. Locals alleged that the shopkeepers had connived with some MC officials to encroach upon the road space. Some of the space had been encroached by rehriwalas. Apart from the road space, streets too had been encroached by some 'influential' shopkeepers to expand their business. Though the matter had time and again been brought to the notice of higher authorities, no action was taken against the encroachers, they informed. The MC authorities were not even clearing the garbage dumps from the main markets, they alleged, saying instead of removing the garbage to the official dumping sites, they had been burning it by the road sides, spreading smoke and polluting the atmosphere. Locals warned to hold an anti-MC protest of immediate steps were not take to remove encroachments and garbage from the markets. |
