Army foiled Infiltration bid, trooper killed in Kupwara gunfight | Search operation underway | | S Tahir-ul Haq

KUPWARA, May 6: An army trooper was killed on Friday in an encounter near Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district. Official sources said that Army's 21 KAMAW guarding the Gujer Dori area near Line of Control (LoC) in the sector detected some suspicious movement during wee hours on today. When the forces challenged the infiltrators, they started firing ensuing fierce gun battle in which an army trooper, Sepoy Ramesh Chand Yadav of Rajasthan was injured. Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col N N Joshi confirmed early times and said that an army trooper sustained serious bullet injuries in a gunfight with infiltrators in near LoC while foiling an infiltration bid. The gunfight triggered after the security forces noticed suspicious movement and challenged the group of infiltrators trying to sneak inside, the official said. The injured trooper was immediately airlifted to army's 92 base hospital for treatment however, he succumbed to his injuries, the official said. The search operation in the area is still going on till the last reports came in. |
