9-yrs on, Gurez Degree College has no teachers | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 6: Several degree colleges across Kashmir reunderstaffed thus giving a tough time to the aspiring students. Government Degree College Gurez established in the frontier town is facing acute shortage of staff while locals allege that despite bringing the matter into the notice of authorities, government turned blind eye and is not interested in mitigating the sufferings of the students. A delegation from Gurez said the college has only four regular employees- the Principal and three class fourth workers. "In recent appointment drive of contractual staff for degree colleges by nodal college Amar Singh College for session 2016, all the colleges except the GDC Gurez was provided the faculty." In absence of faculty, no class work is going on in the college," they said adding that the shortage of teaching staff in the college has adversely affected the studies of about 500 students enrolled in the college. Established as college in 2007, the educational institution continues to function in the two temporary fabricated sheds as the construction of new college building has missed several deadlines. Both the students and the Principal (who happens to be the only faculty) rue the poor infrastructure including lack of space for holding classes. The college principal acknowledged the shortage and said that the nodal college has not sent any faculty to his college due to which the academic calendar has been hit badly. "Nine years after the college was established, the infrastructure of the institution remains to be in the worst condition," locals rued and appealed concerned authorities to address the problem in the interest of the poor students. |
