Early Times Report
Jammu, May 18: Announced with much fan-fare by erstwhile UPA-II government, Ayurvedic and Unani colleges for JK, still exist in papers only, as the nod by Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) is awaited, despite lapse of seven years. Sources in department told Early Times that the then Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad has announced two degree colleges for Jammu and Kashmir, Ayurvedic College Akhnoor in Jammu region and Unani Medical College Ganderbal in Kashmir at an approximately cost of Rs. 58 crore but astoundingly two year lapse of announcement, state government has taken their construction work of both colleges buildings in hand and announced that the construction work of both college building was completed in the year 2013-14 but interesting two year lapse of deadline, the construction work is still in progress. The then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah claimed that the first batch of BAMS and BUMS degree courses in the two professional Colleges would be started 2014-15 academic session but same has failed to take up the matter with Union Government regarding registration, and their administration has not submits formalities to CCIM, Government of India (GOI) which was submitted in short time period between (April 01- April 30) in each year. "Now, in 2016 the department has submitted formalities to CCIM for registration but the permission yet not given by union government", sources said, adding that though infrastructure of both colleges is almost completed but starting of degree course certain formalities and requirements are yet to be fulfilled by department. The colleges have to fulfill many more formalities which include grant of affiliation from University, previous year the authority has taken the matter with both state universities of state and hoped that this year it was approved. For starting courses in colleges, it needs staff strength of around 500 people including professors, readers, para medical staff etc but yet the state government has not sanctioned the staff strength that means it is not possible to start the courses in both colleges of state in current academic session, if permission will be granted by union government. When contacted ISM Director Dr Abdul Kabir Dar, he didn't respond the phone. |
