Weather turns pleasant as rains lash Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, May 24: After experiencing humid and hot weather for the last couple of days, the downpour since late last night has brought much needed relief to the people of Kashmir, including Srinagar, which recorded the hottest day of the season after the mercury surged and settled at 31.9 degree on May 21.A meteorological department spokesman here today said that there could be light rain or thundershowers at few places in the state during the next 24 hours.During the subsequent five days, the weather would mostly remain dry in Kashmir valley.The summer capital, Srinagar, which witnessed a dip in the night temperature due to overnight rain, recorded 10 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours. Against 15.4 degrees recorded yesterday, the temperature was 12.8 degrees in Srinagar.The spokesperson said the sky will be partly cloudy with possibility of light rain and thunder showers during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 27 and 13 degrees respectively. Reports of rainfall were also received from other parts of the valley, including world famous tourist spots of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Yusmarg and Kokernag. The highest rainfall of 22.4 mm was recorded at Kokernag followed by Pahalgam with 21.9 mm. The night temperature in all these health resorts was slightly above normal though people woke up to chilly morning due to rain.Meanwhile, sky will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Leh in Ladakh region, where maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 21 degree and 9 degree respectively. |
