Mehbooba wants to bridge gap between Valley, Jammu | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 24: Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti is trying to slip-in the shoes of her father late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed by bridging the gap between Jammu and Kashmir region. Like Mufti Sayeed, she is personally inspecting and supervising the developmental scene in the Jammu region. She reviewed the power scenario in the Jammu in a meeting and directed officials to ensure that there is adequate power supply in this region, when it's needed most. She issued these instruction after having issued similar ones at the meeting of the Srinagar. The CM has been consistently pushing the developmental and infrastructure programmes in both the Jammu and Srinagar cities. It was in the league of the late Mufti Sayeed, who would ensure that both the regions get equal treatment. It's also on account of the political compulsion as Mufti Sayeed had headed first coalition with the Congress, which had bagged maximum seats from the Jammu region, and now the PDP is in government with the BJP, which had almost swept the Jammu region. The CM knows that taking both the regions along will not only end a perceived or real sense of 'discriminiation' in the Jammu region, but it will also blunt the accusations at BJP that the party has aligned with a party, which is seen as 'pro-separatists', alteast in some quarters, for the sake of the 'power'. This approach of Mehbooba Mufti is also a political compulsion more so when she has become the CM for the first time. She is a chief minister but also heads the PDP, which doesn't generate much confidence in the Jammu region till now. Mehbooba Mufti knows that in the next elections also the party would have to align with any party which gets maximum share in the Jammu, as it's a political reality. She has thus started giving the signal that even the party doesn't make a much of political dent in the course of the time, she will emerge as a leader on whom the people of the Jammu can repose faith and for it her such gestures and concerns for the Jammu region, would help her a great deal. |
