Voting for BJP, a wrong decision, lament Jammuites | Discrimination, humiliation continue | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 24: The people of Jammu province voted in large numbers for the BJP hoping that their vote for this party would end discrimination with them and help achieve equality with Kashmir in every respect and bring them closer to New Delhi. However, they today bemoan their decision and say in one voice that their decision to elect BJP candidates in the assembly elections has turned out to be a curse for them. There is hardly anyone in Jammu who is happy with the conduct of the BJP as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Pakistan and Kashmir policy. On the contrary, all right-thinking people in the region have concluded that "theirs was the wrong decision" and that "they are paying through their nose for the "folly" they committed by trusting the BJP". "We curse ourselves for ensuring victory of BJP candidates," Jammuites are saying openly. It happened during the seminar organized by Jammu For India (JFI) on Sunday on the theme "Stand up or perish" with the people in the jam packed City Palace, Kachi Chowni, cursed themselves for electing BJP candidates to the assembly. They also blamed the Delhi Darbar and Indian political class for all the ills facing their province and the nation in Kashmir. Such is the nature of unpopularity of BJP in Jammu. The situation has now climaxed to the point that some of the BJP MLAs themselves have started feeling the pinch. They have started saying that "the BJP has forgotten the people of Jammu province" and "things have worsened in the region after their party became part of the state government". What Akhnoor MLA Rajiv Sharma did during the District Development Board meeting in Jammu on Sunday was just a tip of the iceberg. That he took an extreme step by walking out of the meeting saying Jammu district got only crumbs in terms of development funds as compared to what other districts got was nothing but a blistering attack on his own party and what he did only vindicated the people of Jammu province who had been terming the victory of the BJP as the biggest crime that they committed post-1947. Reports emanating from Kathua, RS Pura, Billawar, Basohli, Hiranagr and Reasi districts also suggest that the people there are also seething with anger. What has further added to the anger of the people of the discriminated against constituencies was the manner in which the senior BJP minister, who took the DDB meeting in Jammu rejected the charge of the Akhnoor MLA putting forward spurious arguments. The spitting by people on their hands they used for casting votes for BJP candidates needs to be viewed in this context as well as in the context of the pro-Pakistan, pro-Kashmir and pro-separatist policies being evolved and implemented ruthlessly by the Narendra Modi government. |
