HC notice to PDD secy on power curtailment in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 28: In a PIL on power cuttailment in Jammu, a high court division bench of Justice A M Magrey and Justice B S Walia today issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the PDD secretary. The counsels for the petitioner submitted that a project for laying cables had been initiated by PDD and for its implementation, there was requirement of 8-12 hours of power cut daily for a minimum one month in one area. The work was vigorously going on in Jammu region as a result of which power cuts were taking place and that too when the summer season was at its peak and people were facing great hardships because of the scorching heat, they said. They said though people of Jammu were having power meters installed in their houses and had been regularly paying electricity tariff, they had been put to harassment by the department. They emphasised that the project could be implemented first in hilly areas of Jammu region and then in Jammu City. The project was not only causing problems to students during exam times, but also to the patients and elderly persons and if it was shifted for six months to the cold and hilly areas of the state, difficulties which Jammuites were facing right now could be redressed. It could be implemented during the winter season. After hearing him, the bench issued notices to the chief secretary and the PDD secretary and put up the matter for consideration on June 3 next.
