jammu, June 20: The PDS sugar, which is being provided by CAPD department, is alleged to be missing from the ration depots for the past more than four months as a result of which consumers are forced to buy it from market at exorbitant rates. The delay in allotment of tenders to millers was alleged to be the reason behind the non-availability of sugar in government depots, according to official sources. Sources said even as the CAPD minister has reportedly given an assurance on the floor of the House in Srinagar that consumers would get sugar within shortest possible time, it was yet to be made available to consumers. Mohammad Amin, a consumer, lashed out at CAPD for its utter failure in providing sugar which was the main essential commodity, especially during the ongoing month of Ramzan. Madhu too criticised the CAPD functioning and termed NFSA as anti-people. She said the department had miserably failed to provide them sugar, forcing them to buy it from market at higher rate. A minister, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said he had not seen such a crisis in CAPD department earlier. NFSA was a burden on the pockets of poor consumers, he added. A senior CAPD official said the process of allotting tenders had been set in motion and consumers would soon start getting sugar. Despite repeated attempts, CAPD director, Jammu, G S Chib was not available for his comments. CAPD special secretary Mohammad Akbar Ganai also didn't respond to the telephone calls of this scribe.
