Voters need to be careful while casting votes on June 22 | | | People, rather voters,of Anantnag Assembly constituency have to be very careful and thoughtful when they walk to the polling booths on June 22 for casting their votes. Whatever decision voters take will be crucial for the very survival of the PDP-coalition Government and for the future of the state's political and security scenario. It is so because Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, has sought berth in the state Assembly by contesting the by-poll which had become necessary after the demise of Mufti Mohd.Sayeed. Since Mehbooba has been member of the Lok Sabha she had to seek berth either in the State Assembly or the legislative council which is mandatory for a chief Minister who is not a member of either of the two Houses. This way the June 22 by-poll is very crucial for the very development of the state. In fact Mufti Sayeed and his daughter forged an alliance with the BJP simply for securing additional funds from the central Government where the BJP heads the NDA Government. And besides Rs.80,000 crores financial package announced by Prime Minister,Narendra Modi, liberal financial assistance has been promised by the Modi led Government. And it is in this context that Mehbooba has appealed to voters to vote for her in order to ensure political and economic stability and end to misery to the people.Well it is no longer a secret that voters voted for change in 2014 election and that was the reason for the Jammuites to elect 25 BJP candidates to the Assembly which enabled it to share power with the PDP Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has sought a decisive mandate from voters in the Anantnag Assembly constituency byelection to bring back the state from the morass of political and economic uncertainties and ensure an era of peace and prosperity. Ahead of the byelection, Mehbooba held a series of roadside public meetings a day before end of the pre-poll campaign. She is seeking election from the constituency to be a member of the state legislature. Her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had been elected from the seat in the last three elections. "We have started picking up the threads from where we left in 2005 to revive the process of political reconciliation and economic rejuvenation so that we can secure a peaceful and prosperous future for the state and its people," Mehbooba said in the roadside meetings. She said people of Jammu and Kashmir, more than ever before, wanted politicians to stand up and address the political and economic issues that mattered to them. "They want leadership, commitment, accountability, political stability, economic prosperity, development and employment," she said. She added that only the PDP could deliver on all these counts with unflinching consistency while the party had set the momentum for tangible transformation on the ground through path-breaking developmental and welfare initiatives. Yes the voters have to make a difficult choice. Will they allow Mehbooba to fulfill the mission and vision of Mufti Sayeed ? Or will they vote against her which would simply prevent the state from getting liberal financial assistance from the cengtre. Mehbooba said the next five years were crucial for not only ensuring good governance, but accomplishing the challenging task of rebuilding safe, sustainable and planned infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir as well.If you want change of direction, not just change of government, if you want new priorities, not just politics, the PDP is the only alternative," she said.Though it is a multi-cornered contest in the Anantnag Assembly it is going to be a main tussle among the candidates of PDP,the Congress and the NC. Well if Anantnag people have any gratitude for Mehbooba they should vote for her as she has been instrumental in getting prime land, under Army occupation, vacated which would allow the south campus of the Kashmir university to expand the campus and include new disciplines in its curricula. She has been instrumental for getting the Tattoo ground in Srinagar vacated by the Army and she is dead set to reduce the presence of Army within the civilian areas of Kashmir. Hence she needs votes to end energy criris and unemployment. |
