J&K Climbers leave for advance training at IMF | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 07: Four top sport climbers of Jammu and Kashmir, Shivani Charak, Aman Dogra, Mrityunjay Sharma and Asma Gul are at present undergoing rigorous training under national coaches at Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi. They have been deputed to Delhi for a 10days advance training and practice by Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) in order to give them the necessary exposure of climbing on the international standard climbing infrastructure and thereby perform to their full potential in the selection camp for Indian team for the Asian Youth Championship. Shashi Kant Sharma, the present trainer of the J&K team also accompanied the climbers. Whereas Shivani Charak and Aman Dogra, both national speed climbing champions have been selected by IMF, the apex body for adventure sports in India, for the selection camp for Indian team, two other national climbers of J&K namely Asma Gul and Mrityunjay Sharma are also likely to be nominated by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee for the selection camp. Asian Youth Championship is going to be held in Tehran from 27th September to 1st October, 2016. "We do not have the standard climbing infrastructure and since selection trials shall be conducted at the 50ft high international standard lead climbing wall and speed climbing wall with star holds our climbers are definitely at a disadvantage as far as experience of climbing on international standard climbing walls is concerned. As such the Association has planned to give another opportunity to its climbers for a week long coaching session at IMF just before the selection camp to be held at thee same venue from August 17 to August 22," general secretary of the MAJK, Ram Khajuria said. |
