| CDPOs, helpers, workers engaged in eating into the ICDS schemes | | No benefit percolates down to children, instead the booty shared by officials | |

Akhnoor, July 7: The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) since its inception in the state has been under the suspicious role for being a scheme that never reaches its grass root levels.
Many instances in the state have often reported the malpractices into it from time to time that suggests that the Scheme meant for children is being skirted off frequently and regularly because of the officials deputed into it being the actual culprits at the helm.
A report emanating from Tehsil Akhnoor contains many glaring examples of the misuse of the scheme by the anganari workers and helpers in connivance with the Child Development Project Officials who are ruling the regime with not a single penny being reaching the ground.
As per the information, the anganwari workers and helpers have arranged a vey foolproof nexus in Chowki Chaura panchayat at Aghar Majhoor village of Akhnoor where these workers never attend o their offices and siphon off all the nutrition , ration and allied monthly products sanctioned under the scheme for the benefit and welfare of the children of the area .
The arrangement is such that whatever product in shape of ration and other nutrients that come for the children under the scheme is divided into two parts , one of which is taken home by the helpers and workers of anganwari while the other half reaches the CDPOs' house thus depriving the children of the single benefit even.
The source close to such information divulge that since these anganwari females from Akhnoor are deputed at Chauki Chora at Aghar Majhoor village of Akhnoor, they instead live with their husbands at other places of the postings .
"The children of these helpers and anganwari workers are taking schooling in good district schools or at the places where their fathers are posted. These include the areas like Katra , Rajouri, Reasi, Akhnoor , Jammu and even the outside state like Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jallandhar and Ludhiana even," said the sources .
They said that the anganwari female workers deputed as helpers and workers also even stay with their husbands, only to come to the centres at the time of the distribution of the monthly ration .
Added to this is another major activity is that the CDPOs who are equal share partners in the scheme booty are also extra beneficiaries as they are also partner to the half of the salary got by these workers and helpers , informed the sources .
"Since the CDPOs allow the workers to stay away from the duty , they charge their half alary in lieu of that ," said sources .When brought into the knowledge of the Social Welfare Department Minister Sajjad Lone , he assured an in-depth investigation into the scam.
" Let the case reach me , I will not spare a single individual involved in this loot ," he said . |
