Jammu, July 7: The Health Department claims they are strictly focusing on providing free basic drugs and other medical facilities to the patients, but the patients in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu have been forced to buy even NS fluid from open markets.
Moreover, without any their fault, doctors on duty have been facing a lot of problems and are accused by patients and their attendants for not providing fluids for last two days.
Sources within GMCH told Early Times that the patients, who are admitted in the different wards of the hospital even emergency ward, have forced to purchase the glucose from open market at high rates especially during emergency cases. "Attendants are seen to run at private medical shops to buy the fluid for their patients as doctors asked to arrange fluid from medical shops as fluid is not available in the hospital, "A senior doctor stated.
Sources further said some patients avoid to use fluid provided by Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation (JKMSC) as some cases of reaction to patients were reported in the different hospitals across the state. "Officials of JKMSC are well aware about the shortage of fluid but JKMSC failed to meet demands of the hospital, "they added.
An attendant, Rahul Sharma said that his relative is admitted in the hospital from Wednesday but he has been buying fluid from the markets since his patient admitted in the hospital. "When ask to concern staff of the hospital about the fluid, they replied they don't help them as fluid is not available in the hospital and they ask to buy from the market, "he stated.
However, officials of the hospital claimed that due to high demands of fluid, the reserved stock has been used but administration is managing the supply from the other hospitals.
