7/7/2016 10:35:57 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 7: Expressing his grave concern over large scale damages caused to private as well as government properties in the Jammu city due to high velocity winds and rain storms that lashed winter capital, Zone president of People's Democratic Party (PDP) Jammu West Puneet Singh Jamwal urged the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Urban forestry departments to maintain a count of all trees in the city limits and prune them periodically to avoid such accidents.
During past one week excessive growth of trees followed by rain storms and high velocity winds have caused havoc in the city limits.
Human lives, transformers, houses, vehicles, cables, electricity supplies and other infrastructures have suffered excessive damages just because overgrown trees could not resist nature's fury. Puneet Singh Jamwal said that had any department cared to prune trees in routine such losses could have been avoided.
Trimmed trees not only give height clearance but also add to city aesthetics, Jamwal said adding that dead or hazardous trees on city rights of way must also be removed and JMC must dedicate a telephone line for the purpose so that people could draw its attention towards overgrown, damaged, leaning or uprooted trees that damage property worth cores of rupees every year.
The PDP Zone President said that this year also excessive damages have been done and keeping in view this loss, JMC must at and after involving forest department start pruning immediately to avoid any further loss to the lives and propriety.
