Ex-SPO, his friend held for 'gang rape' of Kupwara woman | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, July 7: Police on Thursday arrested two persons, including a former Special Police Officer (SPO), for allegedly gang-raping a woman in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Eid. A complaint was lodged by parents and neighbours of a female in Police Station Lalpora Kupwara, that the said female has been raped by two persons namely Jaffar Ahmad Khan resident of Diver and Manzoor Ahmad Lone resident of Dardpora, said a police spokesman. On the receipt of this complaint, an FIR number 74/16 under section 363, 376 RPC, and 109 CrPC has been lodged in Police Station Lalpora. Both the accused have been arrested, he said. The police spokesman in Srinagar said that the medical examination of the woman has been conducted. "…and further investigation is on," he said. Meanwhile, SDPO Lolab Hilal Ahmad said that the medical examination has confirmed rape. He said that one of the accused, Manzoor Ahmad was working as Special Police Officer (SPO) until 2006. SSP Kupwara Ajaz Ahmad Bhat said that the unmarried woman told them that she was taken by her foster brother namely Jaffar Khan for an outing in the village on eid. "According to the lady, he forcibly took her in the nearby forest where he and his friend namely Manzoor Lone of Darpora Lolab raped her," he said. |
