Month of Ramzan witnesses bloodshed as 24 militants killed, 17 security men martyred | | | Early Times Report
jammu, July 7: While prayers and fasting marked the holy month of Ramzaan, but this period in Jammu and Kashmir remained bloodiest with the killing of 24 militants and 17 security personnel sacrificing their lives in various combat operations. Although, as per reports, over 70 militants have been killed so far in this year across the state, the holy period from June 7 to July 5, witnessed a lot of bloodshed in the hilly terrains. As per sources, 24 militants and a civilian got eliminated in different operations in the Kashmir Valley while 17 security personnel, including of CRPF, BSF and Army jawans lost their lives while fighting for nation's pride. ''The month of June has been the ''bloodiest'' with 41 casualties reported across the state, including 24 militants and a civilian,'' defence sources told here . They further said among the slain, there were 17 security forces personnel comprising three each from BSF and Jammu and Kashmir police, two Army jawans and eight of Central Reserve Police Force. Sources further said Ramzaan said to be the period of sacred prayers for peace and harmony and fasting but the anti-national elements had reverted the real sense of this period by indulging into such activities. The holy month started on June 7 and it was on June 17, the first unfortunate incident was reported when a bus carrying Kashmiri Hindus was allegedly attacked by some unidentified stone pelters while they were on way to Tulmulla to pay obeisance at Mata Kheer Bhawani thus injuring two women devotees. An upward trend however, continued and ultimately first militant attack of this period was reported on June 12 in Qazikund belt of Anantnag in which around 10 policemen got injured. On June 16, four infiltrators were gunned down where a jawan sustained injuries in Tangdhar Sector while on June 23, seven militants were eliminated in twin encounters in Kupwara district. As per data available, militants attacked a CRPF convoy on June 25 in Pampore, killing eight of the jawans and injuring 21, which was a major blow to the para-military forces. ''In the first six months of this year, 78 militants were killed and 31 security personnel lost their lives as the Kashmir Valley is witnessing a new wave of militancy,'' sources asserted. |
