Over 89 pc posts of consultants, MOs lying vacant in Kalakote block | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, July 7: Over 89 pc posts of consultants and medical officers (MOs) have allegedly been lying vacant in Kalakote health block of Rajouri which puts a question mark on the government claims of providing better medicare facilities to the people of the state. "Out of the 28 sanctioned posts of consultants and MOs in Kalakote health block of Rajouri, 25 are lying vacant," official sources said. Not only this, PHC, Kote Chalwal, was being run by a nursing orderly (NO) and a Safai karamchari while SDH, as recorded in Health Department records, at Triyath was being run by a junior pharmacist and two female multipurpose health workers (FMPHWs), sources alleged. No doctor against the sanctioned posts of two MOs at each PHC, had been provided at any PHCs in this health block, sources alleged. "District Health authorities have been facing many internal problems in managing the health centres including District Hospital in Rajouri district due to shortage of Consultants/MOs and Paramedical staff," said CMO, Dr Mohammad Younis. He said the matter is in the notice of Director Health Services and it was hoped that soon the situation will improve in the district. He also assured to provide at least one doctor to each PHC by deputing doctors appointed in the district under National Rural Health Mission(NRHM). Out of 238 sanctioned posts of consultant/doctors from regular side, only 88 are filled and rest are lying vacant while out of 101 sanctioned posts of doctors under NRHM, 18 are lying vacant. Community Health Centre (CHC), Kalakote, is the main hospital in this health block. All the five posts of Consultant doctor sanctioned from regular side are lying vacant at this health centre while out of seven sanctioned posts of MOs only two posts are filled. "Two MOs, one dentist and five FMPHWs are running this important Health Centre while the posts of senior Lab Technician, X-Ray technician are lying vacant. No Community Health Officer (CHO) has been provided by the Health Department at this health centre," sources alleged. "PHCs at Darkeri, Sialsui, Saranoo Khawas, Dalhori, Moughla, are provided with no doctors for the last a few years and the people from these areas are rushing to district hospital at Rajouri and to Jammu in case of any medical emergency after hiring taxis," sources alleged. The CMO said he was posted in Rajouri only last month. He was in the process of finding out the shortage of doctors so that he could take up the matter with the higher authorities. "My first effort would be to provide senior pharmacists and FMPHWs at every health centre in Rajouri district so that people especially women don't suffer. As far as shortage of doctors is concerned the matter is with the state government and it was hoped that soon every health centre will be provided with at least one doctor," he added. |
