Residential house of slain militant's uncle torched | Mob uproots Valley's lone high-density apple orchard | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, July 14: A mob, protesting Burhan Wani's killing, on Thursday targeted Valley's lone high-density apple orchard at Bumdoora village of Kokernag set up by know techno-farmer Khurram Shafi Mir. The mob also torched the residential house belonging to uncle of slain militant killed along with Burhan Wani on last Friday. According to sources, a mob from villages Bumdoora and adjacent villages uprooted hundreds of high-density apple plants and set afire a tractor, two huts, a bathroom and two bikes. Khurram Shafi Mir, the owner of the orchard confirmed the incident to media. Spread over to 42 kanals of land, the orchard was inaugurated by late Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed last year in September. Many senior citizens and rights activist expressed anguish over the incident and termed it unfortunate. "His project was ambitious and could have catapulted horticulture economy to the global level," one of rights activist said. Earlier the mob torched few residential houses belonging to maternal uncles of slain militant Sartaj Ahmad of at Bumdoora Kokernag for allegedly leaking the information of presence of slain militant Burhan Wani at their residence. Villagers alleged that maternal uncles of slain militant Sartaj Ahmad, who was killed along with Burhan Wani on last Friday by security forces, had approached police for security cover. No family member was present inside the house when the mob torched the houses as all of them are believed to have gone underground. |
