SRINAGAR, July 14: With one more person succumbing to his injuries at the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura today in the morning the death toll in the continued violence across Kashmir reached 38. Meanwhile, the authorities have decided to impose the curfew across Kashmir on Friday so as to prevent the people from carrying out protest after the congregational Friday prayers. Pertinent to mention here that violence broke out in Kashmir in the evening on July 8 following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani along with his two associates at Bemdoora-Kokernag in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. Irfan Ahmad Dar, resident of Tulli Nowpora in South Kashmir's Kulgam district succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS-Soura early in the morning. It has been learnt that Irfan sustained grievous injuries on July 9 after being beaten up by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in the Kulgam area. From day one the condition of Irfan was critical and today he succumbed to his injuries. In the meantime reports said that protests broke out in some of the areas of Central, South and North Kashmir today. However, the intensity of protests was very less as compared to the past five days. No reports of casualties have come so far with only few persons sustaining minor injuries during these protests. Reports said that in Srinagar protests broke out in the Parimpora, Kathi Darwaza, Chinkral Mohalla and Habba Kadal areas. The clashes in Parimpora were going on by the time this report was filed. Groups of agitating people mostly youth are engaged in pitched battles with the police and CRPF personnel. One of the agitators has sustained injuries in the clashes so far. In the Budgam district reports of clashes have come from the Narbal and Sozeith areas. In South Kashmir reports of clashes have come from Qaimoh and Khudwani areas in Kulgam district with minor clashes also taking place in some other areas of Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian districts. Reports of clashes have come from Trehgam, Lalpora, Batargam, Kupwara, Hyhama, Hatmullah, Warpora, Sopore, Arampora, Cement bridge, Baramulla, Palhalan and Pattan areas of North Kashmir. A police spokesman said the overall situation throughout the Kashmir valley remained under control today though some incidents of stone pelting were reported. The police spokesman said that some stray and intermittent incidents of stone pelting were reported from Qaimoh-Kulgam, Khudwani, Trehgam, Lalpora, Battergam, Kupwara, Hyhama, Hatmulla, Warpora, Sopore, Arampora, Cement bridge, Baramulla, Palhalan, Suzaith, Parimpora, Narbal, Chinkral Mohalla and Habakadal areas. He said that a mob set on fire a house in Bamdoora, Kokernag in South Kashmir. Meanwhile, an official spokesman said that district magistrates of the different districts have announced that curfew would be put in place in these districts. "According to District Magistrates of Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal and Baramulla, curfew will be imposed throughout the districts of Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal and Baramulla tomorrow on July 15, 2016respectively. No public or vehicular movement, except medical emergencies would be allowed," said the official spokesman. The spokesman while quoting the District Magistrates of Kulgam, Budgam, Pulwama and Shopian said that curfew will be imposed throughout the districts of Kulgam, Budgam, Pulwama and Shopian as well. It would be in place to mention here that the separatist leaders had asked the people to carry out protests after the congregational Friday prayers. They had also asked the Imams to lead funeral prayers in absentia for the civilians killed over the past six days in Kashmir. In the meantime, normal life continues to be paralyzed in Kashmir following the imposition of curfew like restrictions in many parts and strike called for by the separatists against the killing of civilians following Burhan's death. Due to the enforcement of restrictions and strike each and every sphere of civilian activity was affected in the Kashmir valley. In the Srinagar city curfew like restrictions were imposed in areas falling under the police stations of Nowhatta, Maharaj Gunj, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safa Kadal, Maisuma and Batmaloo police stations. Curfew like restrictions were imposed in all the major districts and towns of South Kashmir that include Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Sho-pian, Pampore, Awan-tipora, Bijbehara and Tral. Restrictions were also imposed in some of the areas of North Kashmir. |
