Early Times Report

Jammu, July 14: The government has failed to ensure hassle free yatra notwithstanding the lessons ut learnt during the past few years.
Recapitulating the sad days of Amarnath land row of 2008 leading to more than a month long Jammu Bandh pioneered by BJP leaders , Pt Raj Nath Matoo said that every year the anti national elements still surviving despite lapse of eight years under the garb of separatism start doing spade work much before the on set of Amarnath yatra. He said that since last so many years, lacs of pilgrims hailing from different cloners of the country visit state to have darshans of Baba Barfani with full zeal and zest via Jammu and numerous government agencies of the state and the centre are still seen helpless to put into place a well knit mechanism to ensure smooth flow of pilgrims without any hitch or hindrance.
While talking to Early Times Jatinder Singh Bhatti of Punjab stated that he has been visiting Amarnath shrine every year since decades, but every government which came into power did not bother to guarantee hassle free movement of yatries to Kashsmir from base camp Jammu due to seasonal hooliganism of separatists indulged with impunity.
He sadly shouted at the BJP leaders representing Jammu in the government as alliance partner with PDP saying that these BJP walas have not been able to seriously ponder over the issue of Amarnath yatries well before its start and utterly failed to create conducive conditions for smooth yatra this year also.
Due to apathetic attitude of centre government led by BJP and negligence of local BJP leaders to sincerely follow up issue of amaranth pilgrims, the yatries had to remain stuck up at base camp Jammu with many held up in midway and remaining at base camp Baltal for nearly five days, said Subash Kumar of Jammu. Stating the tale of horrible experience at Baltal where he was held up , he told that seriousness of the government can be measured from the fact that it lacked vision to anticipate and did not have any plan in hand as an emergency measure to handle and provide basic facilities to thousands of yatries who remained held up at Baltal for several days due to hostile circumstances created by separatists in Kashmir who are known habitual of doing it every year to disturb amaranth pilgrims. Let these separatists follow their agenda if there is no control on them, but why the yatries are put to jeopardy for non of their fault, he questioned.
Is not it the failure of the state government and Amarnath Shrine Board authorities, he said adding that there looked no existence of the government whatsoever to help yatries at Baltal for all these days with no proper arrangements of providing drinking water to pilgrims and people allegedly bought a bottle of water paying Rs. 50 to 60 , sleeping bed for one night shelling out Rs. 1200 instead of Rs. 300. One can better imagine the plight of poor and indigent yatries with no enough pocket money to spend under such circumstances, he rued.
Another yatri from Rajasthan Rajeev Nandan told that the government only believes in publicity stunt and nothing on ground was visible for the facility of pilgrims in difficult situation as experienced for all these days. He said that it was a tough ordeal to remain stuck up at base camp in Kashsmir and only due to availability of langers installed by private parties, not only yatries, even local workers, ponywalas, pithoos and others were helped by them by providing eatables to survive there, though there was no source to replenish the stock position including cooking gas cylinders for the Langer operators. He said that at such a juncture the role of the government is importantly required which was awfully missing at the time of crisis.
Taking a dig at the recent statement of BJP state minister from Jammu without knowing the ground realities that elaborate arrangements have been made for smooth yatgra, Kishore Kumar,a yatri held up at base camp Bhagwati Nagar Jammu told that Tourism Department has set up clock room for its operation round the clock, but it remains often closed with no care of the district administration to grill the officials responsible for keeping it open regularly with pilgrims waiting for hours for deposit or clearance of their luggage.
Lashing out at the government for failure to rein in couple of persons propagating separatism in the valley and holding the whole government machinery in ransom , Pankaj Singh university student said that where there is a will there is a way and it is only the lack of will of the successive and present government to provide unhindered road mobility of yatries atleast during Amarnath yatra otherwise everything is not that difficult to control law and order as is demonstrated by the law enforcing agencies under the command of state and centre governments
After an administrative faux pas and continued disturbances in the valley , simply holding high level meetings and issuing appeals by both the governments to hooligans to maintain calm and peace in Kashmir is not going to help in any way either to peace loving people of the state nor the Amarnath yatries coming once a year in Kashsmir who will continue to take every time a negative message of law and order break down in the valley unless the common epigram is applied on law breaking elements strictly called "Latton ke bhoot baton se nehe mante hi", said a yatri wishing not to be quoted.
