Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 14: The unequivocal stand taken by New Delhi and the US that J&K was an internal matter of India have disturbed, alarmed and upset Islamabad. It has upset the Pakistani establishment to the extent that both the toothless Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Foreign Office have appealed to the international community to intervene so that the Kashmiri Muslims got their right to self-determination. They appealed to the international community to force New Delhi to implement the UN resolutions on J&K. They were so callous, irresponsible, biased and vindictive that they completely overlooked the point that the UN resolutions have become redundant as Pakistan itself has violated them by not vacating the aggression from PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, as also by ceding about 5000 sq km J&K territories in Gilgi-Baltistan to China.
The UN resolutions on J&K clearly say that Pakistan has to vacate the aggression and that plebiscite would be organized in J&K as it existed on August 15, 1947, and not province and district-wise. This is clear that plebiscite cannot be organized in J&K. Even the US Secretary General has on occasions more than one stated that the UN resolutions have become infructuous and that India and Pakistan should sit together to sort out all the outstanding bilateral issues.
That the stand of New Delhi and the US that J&K was an internal issue of India has completely disturbed and upset Pakistan could be seen from the fact that the Pakistan Foreign Secretary has met with envoys of five super powers and appealed them to help Pakistan make India vacate Kashmir or make India accept that J&K was a disputed region.
"Pakistan asked the five permanent UNSC members to take notice of the tense situation in Kashmir and call on India to 'respect human rights' of the people in the violence-hit Valley. Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry briefed the envoys of China, France, Russia, UK and US on the situation in Kashmir, a Agency report from Islamabad said Wednesday. The googletag. cmd. push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1465465841930-0'); }) in this regard further said: "He (Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry) expressed Pakistan's serious concern over the brutal killings of civilians and violation of their other fundamental human rights by the Indian security forces,", adding that the Pakistan foreign secretary said that India should conduct a fair and transparent inquiry against the individuals responsible for these killings.
"Chaudhry urged the international community and particularly the five permanent members of the UN Security Council 'to take notice of the gravity of the situation, call on India to respect human rights' of the people of Kashmir and implement UNSC resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir," the report also said, adding that hegoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1465465949855-0'); }); rejected 'India's attempts to claim that the deteriorating human rights situation' in Kashmir was its 'internal affair' and emphasised that 'the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir is awaiting the implementation of the UNSC resolutions".
All this should serve to demonstrate Pakistan's frustration and New Delhi's diplomatic win. New Delhi would be well advised to adopt aggressive approach towards Pakistan and nothing would be more appropriate then that New Delhi should ask Pakistan to vacate forthwith its aggression in PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
