Army chief reviews security situation in Kashmir
Says, Pak may exploit present situation in Kashmir, push in more militants; Meets DGP

Srinagar, July 20: In the back drop of ongoing turmoil in Kashmir, the Army Chief General Dalbir Singh on Wednesday reviewed the security situation in Kashmir and asked the soldiers to maintain extra vigil across the Line of Control in Kashmir.
Sources said that he also said that Pakistan may take advantage of the present unrest and push in more militants in the days ahead.
Sources said that Singh who was accompanied by Northern army commander GoC-in-C Lt General D S Hooda. He met GoC of Srinagar-based Army's 15 Corps headquarters Lt General Satish Dua arrived in Srinagar to take stock of the ongoing unrest and to review the security situation." General Singh said that there were apprehensions that Pakistan may take advantage of the present unrest in Kashmir and push in more militants," sources in the Army said.
They said that General Singh laid emphasis on preventing attacks by the protestors on various army camps and posts. "For that, there is a need to build a close relation with the elders of almost every village to ensure that there is no attack on the Army posts or camps. Whenever there is an attack on the camp by the protestors, we must exercise maximum restraint," he told the officers.
However, sources said that General Singh was briefed about the nature of attacks on Army camps and posts by the protestors. "Many officers explained that it was very difficult to bear the protectors as they attack the camps and with an intention to snatch the weapons. No soldiers can tolerate snatching of his weapon," sources quoted army officers, having said.
Sources said that the Army Chief was briefed by the Northern Army Commander Lt Gen DS Hooda and GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen Satish Dua on the situation along the LoC and the hinterland including the measures instituted to ensure close coordination with all security and other government agencies towards maintaining peace in the Valley. "The Army Chief visited Kupwara and also Awantipora based Victor Force where he was briefed on the operational preparedness as also the initiatives taken by Army in collaboration with civil administration to alleviate hardships being faced by the populace due to the prevailing unrest," sources said.
Sources also said that he also met DG Police K Rajindera and was reassured about the excellent synergy between Army, Police, CRPFs and intelligence agencies."
In his interaction with officers and troops, sources said that the Army Chief exhorted "everyone to ensure strict vigil along the Line of Control." "He also appreciated the synergy being shown amongst all security agencies that has resulted in successful counter militancy operations. He also complimented the troops on ground for showing maximum restraint even in the face of grave provocation," sources said.
