Congress demands 4-way split of J&K | Kashmir unrest | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 20: The ongoing turmoil in Kashmir has once against triggered a debate in nationalist circles on the need to reorganize the state so that the nationalist people and the land they occupy are separated from the restive parts of Kashmir Valley and they could lead a dignified life as proud Indian citizens in the democratic country under the Indian Constitution. Significantly, on Wednesday, a senior Congress leader, a party functionary and former MLA, Leh, T Samphal, raised the demand, saying reorganization of the state has become absolutely necessary He is not an ordinary Congress leader. He is a very close friend of senior Ladakhi Congress leaders, including P Namgyal and Leader of Congress Legislature Party in the Assembly Rigzin Jora, Tearing into the Narendra Modi Government and asserting that it was free for all in the Valley, Samphal urged the authorities to declare Jammu province as full-fledged state, grant Union Territory status to the trans-Himalayan Ladakh "with legislature" and create "a home town with Union Territory status" for Kashmiri Hindus in the Valley. "What sort of situation India is waiting for the above action?", he asked. He warned that the situation would become more alarming and dangerous if the state is not reorganized forthwith considering the fact that the Kashmiri Muslim leadership has set the Valley on fire and the authorities in the state and the centre have utterly failed to rein in subversives. "You have no semblance of control over public in the Valley, where ISIS flags and Pakistan flags are hoisted by all and the Indian flags face the ugliest disrespect. The funerals of slain militants are attended by all despite curfew and all law enforcing agencies need to hide. So what type of worsened situation is the Government of India waiting for?", he said. It is obvious that T Samphal is not alone. He has only said what the Congress party in Ladakh believes in and, remember, Ladakhis have been fighting for separation of Ladakh from Kashmir since 1947 itself. |
