Jammu CCI's intervention punctures separatists' balloon | Kashmir is not J,K and Ladakh | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 20: A number of significant developments took place in Jammu on Tuesday. Many concerned people at different places and at different platforms discussed the prevailing situation in Kashmir and its impact on Jammu, its society, polity and economy, as also on the paramount national interest in J&K. There was consensus that that what had been happening in Kashmir was the fallout of the dirty politics that was played by Pakistan and its Kashmir-based agents and the policy of appeasement being pursued by the successive governments at the centre, including the present BJP-led NDA Government. There was also consensus that New Delhi never ever cared to consider the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Ladakh and of other nationalist religious and ethnic minorities in the state and that its whole policy was based on the misguided notion that Kashmir meant the entire State of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and fulfilling the aspirations of Kashmiri Muslims (read Kashmiri-speaking Sunnis) would be the same as fulfilling the aspirations of all in the state. One of the most significant developments was the line which the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) took on the Kashmir unrest and on the possibility of New Delhi initiating a dialogue with Kashmiri separatists or on the possibility of New Delhi working out a solution that is acceptable to Kashmir. The JCCI did express concern over the prevailing situation in the Valley but, at the same time, made it loud and clear that any solution that doesn't suit the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region will not be accepted and that the solution has to be such as is acceptable to them. "Separatists in Kashmir are reaching a consensus without knowing the aspirations of other two regions of the state. Rather than an all-party meeting on the Kashmir issue, an intra-state dialogue between the three regions of the state should take place before any talks are held with other stakeholders," the JCCI said in unequivocal terms. "It is a matter of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, not only (of) Kashmir. We do not agree with the war path adopted by the people at large in the Valley and condemn the bandh call given by separatists, which had led to deaths and injuries to civilians as well as the security forces. Separatists should first talk to the people of Jammu and Ladakh who too are primary stakeholders in the region, before raising their demands. The Chamber is ready for talks if invited in the interest of peace and development of the state, but first separatists will have to shun the path of violence. No all-party delegation would be welcomed as it was the internal matter between the three regions of the state and that there was no agreement of any sort so far. In the absence of any consensus, no one has the right to approach the Government of India or the United Nations. No one has the right to interfere," the JCCI further said, adding that it also condemned the attacks on pilgrims and langar sheds of Amarnath yatra. Notwithstanding its one controversial statement that what had been happening in the state was an internal matter, the JCCI's statement that Jammu and Ladakh are the primary stakeholders in the region and that it would not welcome the all-party delegation if it focus only on Kashmir could be considered a very positive intervention. Significantly, others who met on Tuesday at other platforms also aired the same view. It is hoped that New Delhi would this time adopt a holistic approach towards the issues facing different people inhabiting different regions of the state. |
