SRINAGAR, July 20: Barring isolated incidents of minor stone pelting at few places in past twelve days, youth in Srinagar city refrained from violence with most of them either playing cricket on deserted roads or enjoying holiday's at hill stations.
Old city which is known as the hub of stone pelting this time refrained from dingdong battles while as the government also provided them a room to be in motion so that there would be no space for aggression.
Barring few places wherein stone pelting has become a daily schedule for youth, old city remained peaceful by and large even after wanted Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani whose photos were displayed on every Friday at Jama Masjid was killed in an encounter with security forces earlier this month.
"There are certain reasons as to why old city youth showed resilience, most of them have witnessed hard days while others have learnt lessons from their seniors, besides parents of many wanted palters have given in written that their wards would not indulge in any aggressive activity," a senior police official told 'Early Times' on basis of anonymity.
He added that youth in Srinagar city have this time set an example by not indulging in violent activities despite the fact that stone pelting has become their daily routine.
"We used to play cricket on roads while some youth have gone for outing, not a single serious incident took place during past twelve days in Down Town, most of the youth are on agencies radar while some have recently completed their term so it is just hard for us to participate," said a stone pelting youth from Gojwara area.
Even volatile Maisuma area which houses the office and residence of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik who is spearhead ongoing 'campaigning' has refrained from aggression this time.
"You can see Maisuma wherein stone pelting has been a weapon for even minor issues including that of electricity, water, ration and other day to day issues this time abstained from violence, this speaks a lot as I don't want to go in detail for many reasons,'' the official said.
Jamia Masjid, Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal, Bohri Kadal, Khanyar, Khawaja Bazar, Hawal are the strong bastions of the chairman of his faction Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umer Farooq wherein youth remained indoors these days and did not paid any attention to what is happening around.
