SMVD College of Nursing organises faculty development programme
Classes for first batch of students to commence from July 25

Jammu, July 20: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), established by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board adjacent to the Superspeciality Hospital at Kakryal, organised Faculty Development Programme for its faculty today. The programme was held at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Kakryal.
Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, speaking on the occasion emphasised the need for putting in hard work by the teachers, students and the management of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing to develop this institution as a centre of excellence in teaching and research in the discipline of nursing.
For the purpose, he stressed on continuously updating knowledge and optimally utilising the state-of-the-art labs and other facilities put in place in SMVDCoN. Maj. Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sharma, Chairman of the Governing Body of SMVDCoN and member, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, spoke about the aims and objectives of establishment of SMVDCoN.
Giving details, he informed that 60 meritorious girls have been selected on merit basis (10+2 examination 90% weightage and aptitude assessment/interview 10% weightage) for the 4 year B. Sc. Nursing programme which will be spread over 8 semesters.
The college will follow Semester and Credit Based system as per the latest guidelines of the UGC. The classes of the first batch of students will commence from 25th of this month.
Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, interacting with the Faculty said that such interactions, particularly with the senior faculty of the university help in imbibing new knowledge and teaching skills for the benefit of the students.
He added that all the stakeholders have to work hard to develop SMVDCoN as one among the front ranking institutions in the realm of nursing across the country.
Ajay Khajuria, Registrar, SMVDU, lauded the decision of the Governing Body of SMVDCoN to organise Faculty Development Programme just before the commencement of the classes for the first batch of the college which will prove beneficial in promoting greater professionalism in teaching learning process.
Nursing College has highly qualified faculty and is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure like hi-tech smart classrooms with LED Projectors and WiFi connectivity, most modern labs which include Nursing Foundation Laboratory, Nutrition Laboratory, Anatomy Laboratory, Biochemistry and Microbiology Laboratory and Computer Laboratory, a well stocked library with facility of on-line journals for real time accessing information regarding latest advancements made in the stream of nursing worldwide, both by the students and the faculty. A well furnished hostel has been prepared for the students, for a comfortable stay and facilities for hygienic food.
