PHC Sathra closed, records shifted, angry mob pelts at ambulance

Mandi, Sept 12: Although government has opened many SDHs, PHCs and sub centres for the benefits of general public at tehsil, block and panchayat level, in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district, the Block Medical Officer Mandi tried to close the Public Health Centre Sathra and sent an ambulance vehicle to ferry the record and furniture of the centre to SDH Mandi.
According to the sources the locals of block Sathra retorted with anger against the official and threw bottles at ambulance which was loaded the stationery, medicines and furniture of sub centre Sathra. Locals in this regard held a massive protest against the higher authorities of the said department and alleged that the government has sanctioned a PHC building for this block and an ineligible officer tried to disentitle the right of the locals.
Hafeez Ullah Khan, Khurshed Ahmed and Mumtaz Reshi said, "Due to negligence of Chief Medical Officer Poonch the BMO is going to transfer this centre from Sathra to Mandi". They allegedly said that the people of the nine surrounding panchayats of Sathra block are ignored by the authorities of health department.
They said the PHC should be made functional as early as possible and warned that if authorities fail to give justice to them uptil Wednesday, they will come on roads.
BMO Mandi when contacted said the building owner ousted the record of the centre from his house due to congestion of his own and the authorities thought it better to shift the record to Mandi as the PHC building has two owners who are at dispute .
He said the centre will be shifted after all clearness. He condemned the blame by people against him and said, it is people's habitual fact to raise fingers on honest officer but reality is what he knows. Locals have appealed deputy commissioner Poonch Muhammad Harun Malik to intervene in the matter personally and take strong action in this regard.
