| In what capacity, former MLA Basohli addressed Zoo foundation laying ceremony? | | No forest official dared to raise finger over her presence | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 12: The foundation stone laying ceremony of Jambu Zoo (Shivalik Biological Park) at Khanpur in Nagrota on Saturday, saw presence of former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Basohli, Kanta Andotra, which have raised the eyebrows in every quarter but not of the officials of Forest department as none of them dared to raise finger over her presence and her addressing the gathering.
Pertinently, Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Choudhary Lal Singh today laid foundation stone of Jambu Zoo (Shivalik Biological Park) at Khanpur in Nagrota, which shall be completed within two years over 5000 kanals of Wild Life Department's land at an estimated cost of Rs. 120 crore.
Among several dignitaries, who shown their presence during the function, former MLA Basohli Kanta Andotra was also there and was given warm reception by the staff of Forest department.
The function was reportedly organized by Chief Wildlife Warden and it is still unknown as whether Ex-MLA Basohli Kanta Andotra was officially invited by the department or she had accompanied Choudhary Lal Singh as none of the official was ready to say anything and all officials of Forest department was found busy on Monday from morning to evening with the Minister.
"A bouquet was presented to her by a female officer of Forest department and after the addressing of Forest Minister Choudhary Lal Singh, former MLA Basohli was given an opportunity to address the gathering", officials present in the function informed.
"It is beyond comprehension as in which capacity, former MLA Basohli was invited in the foundation stone laying ceremony by the office of Chief Wildlife Warden, as she is neither incumbent legislator or former MLA of Jammu constituency, where the proposed zoo is being developed", sources said, adding that why not former MLA Jammu East Ashok Khajuria, who is also incumbent MLC was not invited by the department.
He further said that it could be called the sycophancy of the Forest officials or threat of Forest Minister that, former MLA Basohli was allowed to address the gathering and was given reception alike to Forest Minister himself.
The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), which had earlier also invited criticism from various quarters as husband of one of BJP Minister was calling shots and interfering in the official functioning of the departments, headed by his Minister's wife.
When contacted, a senior official of Jammu and Kashmir Law department said that there was no code framed so far, governing the cabinet minister's family members. "The Union government had initiated the process to draw codes but it was not completed and in state there is no such code and in absence of such codes, the relatives and family members of Ministers interfere in departments' functioning", he said. |
