Jammu, Sept 12: One more solution and again based on the nasty premise that Kashmir is Kashmir and Jammu and Ladakh and their people Kashmir's colonies and slaves. The solution is also based on the atrocious premise that Kashmiris cannot live in "intolerant India", because they are secular.
"Is it so hard for us to understand that they may not be ecstatic about being part of a India, even if India has formally declared itself to be secular? Today, India is as far from being secular as it has ever been. Since May 2014, we have had a succession of violent outrages on India's secular fabric. Kashmiris read the papers and tune into television every day like millions of other Indians. They can see the increasing intolerance in the country. There were outrages and attacks before this government came to power, but Kashmiris can see that these are far more widespread than before. Why should they want to be part of an increasingly intolerant, illiberal India?," said Kanti Desai, so has been poking his dirty nose in the affairs of J&K since years now.
He didn't stop just there. He said New Delhi should restore Article 370 to its pristine position to win over the hearts of the alienated Kashmiris and the Kashmiris in turn should reassure the people of Jammu and Ladakh that their hopes and fears will be addressed.
"Can anything be done in Kashmir beyond riot control? New Delhi must reassure the state that Article 370 will be honoured. Kashmiris of the Valley must in turn reassure the other parts of the state that their hopes and fears will be addressed. This will not guarantee that Kashmiris will love India or that Jammu and Ladakh will love Srinagar", he has said.
What exactly has he suggested? He has suggested that New Delhi's jurisdiction over the state must be limited to three subjects of foreign affairs, defence and communication and all other subjects should be left to the care of the Kashmiris. In other words, he has suggested a regime that is not Indian. But more than, he has suggested that the people of Jammu and Ladakh have no other alternative, but to live at the mercy of Kashmiri leadership. It is for the Kashmiri leadership to decide what to give and what not to give to Jammu and Ladakh, he has, in fact, suggested.
Jammu and Ladakh are not Kashmir's colonies. Nor are the people of these two regions slaves. They are proud Indian nationals and they have their own aspirations. |
