Opposition approves tough measures against protesters | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 12: Following visit of the all party delegation to trouble torn Kashmir valley, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has got support from the Opposition parties to take stern measures for cracking the cycle of violence in the Kashmir and bring the life back to the normal. The principal opposition party Congress and also members of the Left parties, who have been highly critical of the government, are being updated by the government about the developments in Kashmir and are also being informed by senior officials of the intelligence agencies. "Modi government has decided to go tough at the protestors. The action is likely to start after the Eid; the opposition has been informed and also that the action necessitates in the interest of the nation, to which opposition has agreed in principal," said a senior official The sources said that Congress was also reminded that when PDP and Congress were in power the then BJP Government headed by AB Vajpayee had given all possible cooperation and the situation then was far more peaceful. "It's in the same spirit the Congress was asked for reciprocation and it had agreed. The Left parties were bit skeptical but they also agreed to a larger extent," said the official. Meanwhile, sources divulge that the first phase of the tough measures will be large scale arrests and the protestors will be charged under much tougher law. The stringent security measures will be in place and the movement will be restricted to restrain the protestors from coming on the streets. "There is strong possibility that most of the operations against the protestors will be in night with the lights snapped in most of the areas where there will be raids, much in the advance. The operations are likely to be assisted by the army which will be on patrol in the area and its presence will be a deterrent for the others," said the official. |
