Jammu, Sept 12: Police on Monday foiled the protest rally of casual workers of the Power Development Department (PDD), concerning to their long pending demands. Amid slogans, casual employees under the leadership of Akhil Sharma, President, J and K Casual Labourers Union assembled at the office of Chief Engineer, Bhagwati Nagar and started marching towards Deputy Chief Minister official residence but were stopped by the heavy deployment of police. Addressing the gathering, Akhil Sharma alleged that the government had failed to meet their demands despite staging several rounds of protests in the past and now for the last 22 days at present. He also claimed that the government had not released their salaries for the past few months. They demanded release of pending wages from Wages Head, regularization and insurance policies for workers, fill up the 5,000 posts which was sanction in the year 2010, end the discrimination with Jammu province workers and compensation to dead/handicapped workers. Meanwhile, their Kaam Chhoro Hartal demanding release of pending salaries, entered 22nd consecutive day today. Jammu Province President, Shesh Kumar, Vice President, Sham Sharma, General Secretary, Sanjeev, Sawar Khan, Ashish Verma, Shamsher Kumar, Ashwani Kumar and Vishal also spoke on the occasion |
