Kupwara, Sept 12: Army on Monday launched a massive search operation in Tangdar and Gurez sectors of Kupwara and Bandipora district after a group of militants tried to infiltrate to this side of Line of Control (LoC) yesterday. According to senior police officers, forces have launched a search operation in various areas of Gurez and Tangdar areas including Abdullan, Buglindat, Korgbal, Wazirthal, Gujran, Dhanni, Gommal, Hajinar, Sudpora, Tad and Pinglaharidal. There are dense forests near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdar sector and army is closely monitoring the movement of every passerby, while as the army has launched search operation in Gurez sector to nab the hiding militants, the official told Early Times. The operation, according to a top police official, was launched after inputs of infiltration of a group of militants near the LoC in Tangdar and Gurez sectors. However sources said, "search operation may be called off tonight after finishing searches in the dense forests of Gomal, Hajinar, Sudpora in Tangdar area. Dozens of foreign militants were eliminated in last few months at various places during exchange of fire between security forces and militants in Kupwara district, said sources. Sources said that, there was no report of any encounter today between security forces and militants or any untoward incidents related to militancy in the area, till the last reports came in. It is pertinent to mention here that, four militants were killed on Sep 11, in Nowgam sector of Handwara area in Kupwara district, after militants had infiltrated to this side of Line of Control (LoC). The search operation was carried out today after four militants were neutralized and there was the possibility of some more militants who may have taken shelter in the thick woods. |
