Farmers raise demand for relaxation in KCC loans | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Oct 7: Kamoun Basmati crops in entire Marheen tehsil especially village Gopalachak and nearby villages have been damaged due to recent incessant rains and storm. Farmers assembled and raised demand for relaxation in KCC loans as they would not pay the loan this year. Ashok Sharma, a farmer said, " Rain has washed out crops in hectors which would affect livelihood in months to come and during critical situation farmers would not pay loan under Kissan Credit cards." Sharma demanded that government should pay due attention towards agricultural sector and facilitate the farmers at ground level than making tall claims for the same. Bishan Kumar, a local farmer said that bank employees pressurized farmers to pay KCC loan of 1 lacs which was impossible to pay. He demanded that revenue and agricultural department must come ahead, make survey of losses and announce compensation for damaged crops. Farmers informed that their crops had been damaged in last few consecutive years due to incessant unseasonable rain and cross border firing but no compensation has been given to farmers that would lead them to commit suicide. When contacted SDO Kamal Gupta Agriculture Officer Hiranagar Division KK Gupta said Agriculture officers have been deployed at panchayat level who would submit their reports about damaged Kamaon Basmati within days. He ensured to proceed with the report to higher authority for compensation. |
