Jammu, Oct 7: State Vigilance Commission has recovered Rs 3.30 lakh from former secretary of the J-K sports council who had withdrawn the amount as house rent allowance despite using government accommodation. "Rs 3.30 lakh have been recovered from the then Joint Resident Commissioner, Mumbai, on account of occupying and using government guest house as the officer has drawn House Rent Allowance (HRA) monthly despite using the government facility", the SVC spokesman said today. Earlier, the Commission had received a complaint alleging that the official had embezzled HRA, misused departmental vehicles and VVIP suits reserved for top government functionaries. "The Commission, after taking cognizance of the matter, sought a report from Principal Secretary Hospitality and Protocol Department", the spokesman said. On the directions of the SVC, a special audit team was deputed to Mumbai to get the accounts of the Resident Commission, Mumbai, audited. The audit team established that the Joint Resident Commissioner has dishonestly drawn Rs 3.30 lakh as rent despite using government facility. It recommended to recover the amount from the officer. The action taken report submitted by Principal Secretary, Hospitality and Protocol Department, has further recommended the rent of the guest house should also be recovered from the former JRC, who has not vacated the accommodation despite having transferred to New Delhi. The audit team also recommended that an in-depth audit of accounts of the Resident Commission need to be conducted as no audit has been conducted for years. |
