MLAs have no guts to challenge writ of separatists | Kashmir Unrest | | Hide behind Y, Z security, stay away from people
Early Times Report srinagar, Oct 7: Even after 90-days of unrest breaking out in Kashmir, the leaders of the ruling coalition and opposition have maintained "golden silence" over the prevailing unrest in Kashmir. A Kashmir watcher while talking to Early Times said, "It's amazing that none of the leaders from ruling party and opposition have dared to challenge the writ of the separatists, who have taken Kashmir hostage for the past three months." He said, "People are suffering and are feeling suffocated. No one is coming forward to help them. Nor is anyone making any effort to come to their rescue and challenge the separatists, who at the behest of Pakistan are calling the shots." He said, "Since the day unrest has gripped Kashmir mainstream politicians have disappeared from the scene and have been enjoying the break. Leaders of opposition National Conference are resorting to chest thumping and are ostensibly providing legal aid to the stone pelters. It seems they want unrest to prolong for political reasons." An analyst said, "The people who had voted for these mainstream politicians have been left in lurch as they have no one to approach. Despite only 10 percent of people supporting the miscreants and the hooligans no one is mustering the courage to counter the writ of the separatists." He said, "MLAs are elected representatives of the people and it's their duty to come forward and assure the people that they would be provided the security and no one would be allowed to snatch their right to earn their livelihoods. It seems MLAs and elected representatives are scared of separatists and their henchmen. They have gone in hiding to save themselves from the wrath of stone pelters and miscreants. It's strange that despite MLAs and other party leaders enjoying the Y and Z category security none of them have mustered courage to even visit their own constituencies. They are living in secure zones and have not even met their own party workers." An official pleading anonymity said that politicians "disappearing from the scene" and not even making an attempt to reach out to the people has prolonged the prevailing unrest in Kashmir. "We cannot expect Police and officials of other security agencies to talk to people and convince them that they can open their shops and resume their daily chores. Whatever, security agencies could do they have done it. Stone pelters and instigators are cooling their heels behind the bars. Situation has been brought under control. Now you don't find miscreants standing on the roads and stopping the vehicles. Incidents of stone pelting have declined and no more rallies are being taken out," he added. The official said, "It's high time that politicians come out from their shells and assure the people that normalcy has been restored and no one would disrupt their normal lives." "Politicians should make an attempt to reach out to people rather than sitting in their cozy chambers. People are fed up of continuous shutdown. They want to resume their normal life but for that they need assurance," said an analyst. |
