As State faces testing times, JU finds time for 'Jashn' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 7: In the backdrop of dark clouds of war dotting Jammu's horizons and the Valley struggling to stand on its feet after nearly three months of unrest, it is shame that University of Jammu is busy organizing an ill-timed extravaganza titled Jashn-i-Riyasat 2016. Anguish has gripped many in the civil society including the students of the University, who are questioning the timing of the 'Jashn' and have drawn the attention of the Chancellor towards inability of the JU administration to understand the mood and sentiment of the people of the region in the light of the heightened tension on the borders. "Many of our students living on the campus belong to villages which have been sanitized by the administration and their families are living in camps; under such circumstances, the University is organizing festivals" said a scholar. Interestingly, the colourful extravaganza organized by the School of Hospitality and Tourism is celebrating 'Colours of J&K', which is presently reeling under deep distress. Besides tension on the borders along IB in Jammu, The Valley is mourning close to a hundred deaths and scores of youth are nursing pellet injuries in hospitals within and outside the state. Besides, many a Jawans of the Army and security forces have been martyred in gory militant attacks in last few weeks. "This is definitely not the pertinent time to celebrate 'Jashn' said another scholar. Meanwhile, unmindful of the emotions on the campus and outside, the Vice Chancellor and RS MP from BJP enjoyed lavish lunch that included regional delicacies and enjoyed cultural performances with loud music and beats of drums in the Zorawar Singh auditorium. |
