'Records of 14 employees misplaced' | EPF fraud surfaces in NHPC | | Arun Singh Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 7: National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Limited Jammu has allegedly committed fraud over the provident fund of its fourteen contractual employees, working in its regional office Narwal, as the records of PF of these employees, which was being deducted from their salary for the last five years, was not found in Employees Provident Fund Office. Sources told Early Times that these fourteen employees out of which five were female were denied the Provident Fund when they reached the EPF office to withdraw it as there was no record found with the office and alleged the fraud committed by management of NHPC in connivance with contractors. "Most of these fourteen employees are working as housekeeping, have been working in regional office on contractual basis for the last more than five years and their provident fund is being deducted continuously by the NHPC management. They recently came to know that their PF was not being deposited with EPF office when they visited office to withdraw it," they alleged further adding that EPF office claimed that there was no record in our name with the office. They informed that in the beginning when these employees visited EPF office for withdrawing some amounts of their PF, they were sent back giving by the officials and asked to visit some other day. "The officers of PF told them to visit some other day for completing relevant formalities. They informed that around Rs 1000 were deducted from their salaries for the last five years and equal amount was supposed to be contributed by the company but these employees got shocked, when they came to know that there was no record available in EPF office. Consequently, when these employees approached NHPC management, they were threatened by the management and even the contractors who were also allegedly hand in glove with management intimidated them to face dire consequence and cautioned them to remain silent. Sources informed that NHPC can't shed its responsibility by giving arguments that they have been put on job through contractors. As per labour law, NHPC Limited, being principal employer is bound to ensure PF to its employees. |
