| Can Pakistan live in peace with India? Possibilities seem remote | | Behind the veil | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 5: Is Pakistan in a position to live in peace with India ? Does Islamabad have any capacity or intention to promote cordial ties with New Delhi ? Possibly not because the political and military developments since 1947 indicate that Pakistan can survive as a bitter enemy of India.
And China is said to have inculcated the idea in the successive Governments in Islamabad that it may be against the interest of Pakistan if it tries to promote cordial ties with India.In order to follow the suggestion from China Pakistan has blindly been raking up the issue of Kashmir to soil the already fragile Indo-Pak relations.
Pakistan's polity does not have the capacity to sustain a normal relationship with India, former foreign secretary and national security advisor Shivshankar Menon has said as he characterised relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours as "managed hostility".
"I would characterise (India-Pakistan relations) today as managed hostility, which I hope it stays managed," Menon said in response to a question on relations between the two nations at a panel discussion organised by the South Asia centre at New York University.
Pakistan has fought four wars against India and lost its face because of the massive defeat it faced during these wars and the latest weapon it has used against India is proxy war,war being waged by militants,trained in camps in Pakistan and Occupied Kashmir.After having been slighted by the successful surgical operation carried out by a groups of Indian troops to eliminate over 38 militants who had been brought on the launch pads across the border to be assisted in infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir,Pakistan forces have been resorting to repeated ceasefire violations.And since the surgical operation Pakistan forces have violated ceasefire as many as 65 times in which scores of Indian civilians and border guards were killed and injured.
And this is followed by scaling down the diplomatic ties in which envoys of the two countries may be recalled briefly.The staff in the two High Commissions,one in New Delhi and the other in Islamabad,is being scaled down .Pakistan has again been peeved by the way one visa officer in the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi had remained engaged in espionage activities.A traders and a teacher from Rajasthan would help him in collecting data about the deployment of the Army and other details.The officer incharge of visa was caught while he was receiving some documents.
Pakistani leaders believe that war hysteria against India may help Islamabad in receiving additional military aid from China.And the super powers goad Pakistan to fume and fret against India which may force Pakistan to seek weapons from these super powers.The game is on and it will not end unless China plays a positive role and that too in favour of India. |
