| Now Education Minister's daughter attends official meetings | | All in the family | |  Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 5: Making governance a family affair, the Education Minister Naeem Akhter now invites his daughter to official meetings, drawing flak from bureaucracy, who termed it undue interference in working of the government.
One such meeting was held here on Thursday wherein Shehriyar Khanam daughter of Naeem Akhter was seen sitting alongside her father, at a meeting called to review the "development of herbal gardens in educational institutions in Kashmir."
Interestingly though the meeting pertained to school education department, incumbent Director Education Kashmir Aijaz Ahmed was "deliberately" kept away from the event whereas his predecessor Dr Shah Faesal, who is often seen as close aide of Naeem Akhter was present.
Sources said the officials present at the meeting took serious note on finding the minister's daughter unduly poking her nose in administrative matters in full public gaze.
Sources said the officials were made to make their presentations pertaining to official works before Akhter's daughter instead of the Education Minister. Most of the officials are understood to have addressed to her instead of her father.
A senior official who attended the meeting said it was against the administrative protocol that the minister's daughter was seen sitting at the chair meant for Commissioner Secretaries or Directors, whereas senior officials were made to sit downwards.
Insiders present in the meeting said it looked that his daughter is interested to bag a contract in the Education Department. "We are confident beyond reasonable doubt that Mantri Ji is planning to allot contracts to some agency through his daughter," said an official, asking not to be named.
The officials however clarified that the minister's daughter attended the meeting out of her own that there was no formal invitation to her from any department. "Basically when even the Director Education was himself not invited, how could the education department have invited her," the officials argued adding the meeting was called by the minister himself.
Sources said apart from Minister's daughter the presence of former Director Education Shah Faesal was equally conspicuous.
Dr Shah Faesal presently posted as Managing Director, State Power Development Corporation, as per officials, had "no business" to attend the meeting of Education department.
The teaching community has taken a serious note of Dr Faesal's presence at the meeting. The teachers said his presence at the meeting has vindicated their viewpoint that he had been "dancing at the tunes of Birbal to settle scores with the teachers forum since last year when the duo waged a war against the teaching community over ego."
"This meeting is a surprise which has cleared many doubts on how some officials work as henchmen of ministers," said an official.
Despite repeated attempts Naeem Akhter could not be contacted for comments. |
