Bakkal, Panasa to get 5 new mini buses
11/5/2016 10:58:59 PM
Early Times Report
REASI, Nov 5: To check menace of overloading in passenger vehicles- the main cause of road mishaps, District Administration Reasi has worked out measures to rationalize existing transport plan besides approving new permits.
The administration has finalized 5 bus and mini bus services for Reasi-Bakkal and 3 mini-buses for Reasi-Panassa, two of the risky routes in the district where many precious lives have already been lost due to sudden mishaps mostly due to over loading of passengers and commodities.
The routes of two mini-buses have been altered from Reasi-Pouni to Reasi-Panasa and additional 2 mini-buses after changing their existing routes have been provided for Bakkal area. This type of arrangement in the transport chart shall benefit the people at large thereby reducing the burden on existing bus services.
Out of 13 new permits, 6 have been issued for mini-buses which shall operate on some selected routes and also remain available on call with the administration in order to handle any type of exigency as a result of public rush. Other 6 auto rickshaw permits were approved for land owners who have donated their land for construction of bus stand at Ransoo and one for new mini-bus on Bakkal route.
The transport Union shall further decide the timings of all newly introduced mini-buses adhering to the existing norms besides avoiding overlaps so that any inconvenience is not caused to the local people.
Earlier, only two buses were plying on Reasi -Bakkal route and a single mini-bus on Reasi- Panasa route which were not sufficient for rising number of passengers and sometimes due to compulsion of limited transport facility, vehicles were packed beyond their seating capacity.
The district administration has also indentified some other over-burdened routes in the interior areas and shall rationalize the transport plan accordingly besides discouraging the practice of driving on incomplete or under construction roads.
The police and transport departments have been regularly monitoring the movement of vehicles on all interior routes. Several drivers have been penalized for violation of road safety rules.
