| Bring Gujjars to mainstream of development: Hakla | | | Early Times Report
Poonch, Nov 8: Leader Shamsher Hakla Poonchir demanded Gujjars and Bakerwals being nationalists by core have suffered a lot in 27 years long turmoil and cross border firing over these years as majority of them are living on LOC.
As per statement issued here, he said Gujjar Bakerwal of J&K mostly resides in far-flung, hilly mountainous areas near forest and on the LOC of the Indo-Pak. But they always fought for the national cause and rendered their services for the same right from PAK raiders invasion in 1947.They worked shoulder to shoulder with army and security forces and many laid down their lives in 1947,1965 and 1971 wars. Besides many Gujjars and Bakerwals were eliminated by the terrorists during the ongoing turmoil but they did not yield and supported the national cause always.
He also said there is a population of Gujjar-Bakerwal community over 34 Lakhs in the J&K state.The needs and the problems of Gujjar and Bakerwals are of peculiar nature, that the culture and language of Gujjar and Bakerwal community is different and as such the community has a distinct identity. Gujjar Bakerwal community of J&K state is still economically, socially, educationally and politically lagging behind and backward. |
